"Maestro DeJonge has this ability to hold the student’s attention. Their world is full of computers and iPhones. He knows they have a short attention span. He knows how to grab their attention using those mediums that kids today are using by adapting it to orchestra. He knows how they’re thinking and chose music that is appropriate (for their age)."

Tim King, Executive Director LPSO

Rick DeJonge has a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. He spent thirteen years in public education having taught high school band, high school choir, and elementary music. He remains active working with bands across the country and has recently worked with Honor Bands and All State Bands in Colorado, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana. Rick’s unique programming for children’s education programs with orchestra have received rave reviews.

"Being able to perform under Mr. DeJonge’s baton was one of the most memorable moments that I will ever have. He was able to teach and keep all of us focused while also keeping us entertained. He was a great conductor and instructor."

"Rick did an outstanding job with our High School All-County Band! It was such a treat for the students to work with a professional composer, and his music was very accessible to our ensemble and audience. As the organizer of the event this year, I was very pleased with Rick’s professionalism and preparedness, as well as his immediate rapport with our students."

Jim Reed, Sumner County Honor Band Chair

"My daughter was fortunate enough to be part of All County Honors Band in which Rick DeJonge was the clinician. She thoroughly enjoyed her entire time during the clinic. The performance they put on was one of the most entertaining and well performed Honors Concerts I have attended. The music was enjoyable and entertaining and Rick’s care and concern for the musical development of the children in his care was obvious."

"Rick was able to give our students a once in a lifetime experience by working with a living composer AND allowing them to work through the process of performing movie music live in front on an audience.  The students grew as musicians and had another level on understanding on how "real world" musicians make a living."
